Burgundy textured cloth covered boards with gilt spinal titles and gilt seal on front board. Very faint trace of edge wear, slight corner wear with a few stray threads, one three-quarter inch slit in cloth on spine slightly below midway at volume title, not torn or open. RARE first edition of Volume II only.

Grey cloth boards with silver gilt titles. Gilt of author's name worn from bottom of front board, though still mostly legible. Title 95% extant. Modest edge and corner wear to cloth and boards, most notable at head and foot of spine. Gilt worn from spine. Previous owner's bookplate from front free endpaper professionally removed, leaving paste ghost. Unmarked block. A very nice ORIGINAL copy, NOT a print on demand copy. Second edition dates from the same year as first, 1913.
